Seniors are a valuable asset and a key part of what makes this city great. Toronto is getting older and our organization views the growth of the ageing population as a triumph rather than a “silver tsunami,” as it has often been dubbed. It is our vision to promote active aging and improved health and well-being outcomes. We want our members to be living in an environment with greater social capital.
Founded in 1986, our committed Group of Tamil Seniors of Ontario in Canada, under the banner of Senior Tamils Centre of Ontario (STC) has come a long way over the past 36 years to engage in a wide range of activities to keep themselves healthy and active. Though they have retired from their active working life, they are continuously being involved through the STC, in projects and activities benefiting them and the general public. And towards this, they are making use of the range of professional, vocational and other expertise, they have gained over their active period of life in Sri Lanka, Canada and other countries. These engagements have turned them to be a galvanized, committed, interactive and cohesive group to work enthusiastically with team spirits on projects, benefiting the Community at large. Their travels as a group of STC members to a number of local and international destinations of tourist interests further consolidate these objectives.
STC believes that physical exercise, coupled with deep social connections and a commitment to taking care of one another, will keep our members healthier and happier. It is believed and we accept that higher levels of social interaction—even peripheral interactions—can have a high payoff in our communities.
In 5 years, STC aims to become the recognized “social change agents” in our communities. As our organization is growing and getting better organized and equipped, we plan to assist our members in community organizing, giving them the skills to assess what their community needs, gather resources, and provide services and programs. All these activities and interactions bring us together to have a pleasant and healthy living and to integrate with among the other communities within our wonderful country, -- CANADA.
As we navigate Covid-19, our commitment is keeping our staff, members and community safe and healthy.
To do so, we have temporarily closed the office until further notice, but all activities and weekly sessions will continue virtually...
